Enough bad talk about fats! There is more to fats than, well, just fats! Unsaturated fats are good for us, like the Omega-3, Omega-6, and Omega-9 that are loaded with antioxidants. Interestingly, it is the same reason why Green Tea enjoys popularity! Antioxidants lower the risk of heart disease and high cholesterol, and have proven effects on lowering high blood pressure. Who can say no to fats now, huh?

Make unsaturated fat a part of your daily diet

Healthy fats are found in nature in an unprocessed form, such as walnuts, flax seeds, hemp seeds and dark, leafy greens.

Eating foods rich in monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fat, both good fats, can improve blood cholesterol levels and lower your risk of heart disease. These fats bring down insulin levels and control blood sugar, which is great news for people battling type 2 diabetes. Load up on Avocados, Nuts, Olives, seeds, and fishes and reap the many health benefits of good fats!

Avoid bad fat to avoid health problems

Time to know the enemy better! All commercially baked goods such as cookies, crackers, cakes, muffins, pie crusts, pizza dough, breads or hamburger buns are reliable sources of bad fat. Other bad fats can be found in packaged snack foods such as chips, candy, crackers, etc. Most fried foods, such as French fries, fried chicken, nuggets, breaded food items; taco shells, etc. also contain a large amount of bad fats. Cakes, cake mixes, pancakes, chocolate milk are also guilty of containing them. 

Bad fats increase the amount of harmful cholesterol in the bloodstream and reduce the amount of beneficial cholesterol. They increase the risk of inflammation, which is linked to heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and other chronic conditions that we are constantly warned about. In addition, they contribute to insulin resistance, which increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Need we give you more reasons to break up with bad fat!
